Thurgood Marshall Oratorical Debate
Education Project
.

Our focus remains the same to the Greater Cleveland Area students, schools, and community partners.  Thurgood Marshall Oratorical Debate (TMOD) Education Project will develop a generation of 21st century of leaders by developing the research, analysis, communication and literacy skills of middle school and high school students that will certainly be used in the workforce and lifelong learning.

“Certain people have a way of saying things that shake us at the core. Even when the words do not seem harsh or offensive, the impact is shattering. What we could be experiencing is the intent behind the words. When we intend to do good, we do. When we intend to do harm, it happens. What each of us must come to realize is that our intent always comes through. We cannot sugarcoat the feelings in our heart of hearts. The emotion is the energy that motivates. We cannot ignore what we really want to create. We should be honest and do it the way we feel it. What we owe to ourselves and everyone around is to examine the reasons of our true intent.

My intent will be evident in the results.”
Thurgood Marshall (1908-1993)
Justice of US Supreme Court

In November 2016, a robust committee was developed to develop an urban debate competition. Two significant partnerships were formed with Cuyahoga Community College Metro Campus, and North Coast District of Ohio - National Speech and Debate Association. Over the next 10 months TMOD competition was formed. Our second year we saw the need for additional literacy programming in the community and created TMOD Education Project to focus on Debating, Oratorical, Instructional, mentoring and Student Forums.
